Through April 4, Bring a Trailer is holding an auction for a Candy Liquid Blue 2021 Koenigsegg Regera. The Regera on BaT was one of 80 copies made by Koenigsegg between 2016 and 2021. It cost $3,277,636 at launch, including more than $1 million in options. The plug-in hybrid powertrain has three electric motors and a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V-8 engine. Together, they give the car 1500 horsepower (or about 1757 hp with E85 gas). To be clear, I can’t afford to bid on a multi-million dollars hypercar like the 2021 Koenigsegg Regera, which is currently for sale on Bring a Trailer, a Hearst Autos magazine similar to Car and Driver. I need more money to bid on most of the machines on BaT. Even so, I still imagine what I would buy with unlimited funds. This brightly colored Swedish exotic caught my eye for obvious reasons. The charmingly retro color of the custom paint is called Candy Liquid Blue. It has gold-painted details that match the many parts of the Regera hidden under its skin. To move on to the next level, open the doors that look like scissors and go into the cockpit, where most surfaces are made of luxurious quilted leather or exposed carbon fiber. The touchscreen that only works in portrait mode and the fully digital gauge cluster are the only things that take away from the well-designed interior. One of the strangest plug-in hybrid cars on the market is the Koenigsegg Regera. Its main engine is a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that makes 1100 horsepower. It is linked to three electric motors that total 700 horsepower. But because each system reaches its peak power at a different time, the Regera only has a total output of 1500 horsepower. A single-speed gearbox is used to send that power to the driveline. This was made to reduce weight and the amount of energy lost along the driveline. Koenigsegg recorded the fastest run from 0 to 249 mph and back to 0 mph in 2019. It said that the assignment was done in 31.49 seconds, and we sent in the needed YouTube video. This 2021 Regera on Bring a Trailer has the original Monroney pricing label. This may be the last detailed price breakdown. From the beginning, Koenigsegg asked for just over $2 million for the Regera. The final MSRP was $3,277,636 after many “must-have” upgrades, like the $285K Ghost package and the $250K Environmental Power Upgrade. The auction for the Regera listing ends in 10 days, and the current bid is $2.6 million, so there is still time for it to sell for at least the original asking price. Still, it’s a good reminder that making up stories is still fun, even if I can’t buy a wild car like that.
