In the summer of 1999, imagine listening to Cher’s “Believe” in a Lamborghini Diablo.

Return to 2023. Bring a Trailer, part of Hearst Autos, like Car and Driver, sells the 1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT roadster. The imagined scene could happen even after the last gas-only Lamborghini was sold.

The air-driven black Diablo on Bat sports a 5.7-liter V-12 engine with a 7500 rpm redline. The engine produces 530 horsepower at 7100 rpm and 448 pound-feet at 5600 rpm. The V-12’s gated five-speed manual transmission powers both axles. “VT” signifies all-wheel drive, while “SV” means rear-wheel drive. The drop-top Diablo VT weighed 3760 pounds, 200 pounds more than the SV, but it had a top speed of 208 mph, while the SV was limited to 199.

We rode in a silver VT roadster during the 1999 Diablo’s makeover but didn’t test it. 18-inch OZ racing wheels and exposed Nissan 300ZX headlights replaced the pop-up ones. The Diablo got a new dashboard with electronic analog gauges and some comfort upgrades.

1990 Lamborghini Diablo superseded the Countach. The Diablo is a legendary supercar. As it was being created, Lamborghini’s Sant’Agata executives wanted the car to reach 198 mph. The first Diablo claimed 202 mph, proving the company’s engineers had broken that limit.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity since only 23 Diablo VT roadsters have been sold in the US. Bat sales finish on August 3.
