• The electric BMW SUV is likely to be named the iX3 and will be built on the company’s Neue Klasse platform.
  • The front of the SUV looks like the Vision Neue Klasse concept from the previous year. The grille trim and headlights are both part of a single full-width piece.
  • Getting the iX3 in the US should be fine by 2026.

Last year, BMW’s Vision Neue Klasse concept car gave us a look at its upcoming line of electric cars. By 2026, this one-of-a-kind-looking car should be an electric 3-series. Our spy shooter now has pictures of the iX3, the Neue Klasse’s bigger SUV brother. The iX3 is expected to go into production after testing this winter.

Behind the camouflage, the design is based on well-known ideas from the sedan concept. The headlights and grille trim on the SUV have a smiley face on them. The design shows that the latter will probably be split down the middle to make BMW’s famous “kidney grille” look. The SUV looks shorter and lower than the present X3, and the wheels are farther out on the corners.

While BMW has been selling the iX3 in China and Europe since 2020, this next-generation model will likely come to the US at some time. BMW wants to make at least six other cars on the same flexible Neue Klasse platform as the sedan in the first two years of production.

The platform is said to be driven by 800-volt electricity and batteries that have a 20% higher energy density. As of now, BMW says the iX3 will be up to 30% more fuel-efficient than its current EVs and will be able to go more than 300 miles on a single charge. In the US, you should be able to get the BMW iX3 by 2026.
