Tag Heuer and Porsche worked together to make two unique 718 Cayman GT4 RS cars for the Carrera Panamericana rally race in Mexico. The collaboration is part of Porsche’s Sonderwunsch program, which lets users make things like the new Porsche Sally special based on the 911 Carrera GTS, which Pixar inspired. Sonderwunsch is German for “one-of-a-kind request.” The cars are made to look like the Porsche 550 Coupe, which was used in the Carrera Panamericana race in 1953 by two customer teams. When you have as many classic racing cars as Porsche does, you can be sure that you will have users who want to put a modern spin on old favorites. The most recent vehicles made by the company are two 718 Cayman GT4 RS models that were made in collaboration with Swiss clock Tag Heuer. As part of Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (German for “special request”) customization program, the pair was created to mark the 70th anniversary of two client teams participating in the Carrera Panamericana rally in Mexico. Le Mans Silver Metallic is a unique color in Porsche’s history. It was made for the 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenaire Edition to honor the color of the 356 SL Coupe that won the 1951 Le Mans race. Race numbers 152 and 154 are painted on the doors and roofs of the 152 and 154 types to help people tell them apart. The inside of the unique edition cars is painted Guards Red, and the steering wheel and dashboard have red, white, and green stripes, which are the colors of the Mexican flag. Each car’s floormats make it clear that it came from the Sonderwunsch program, and the door guards and cup-holder panels are engraved with the words “GT4 RS Panamericana Special” to make them stand out. In honor of the partnership, the Tag Heuer logo is pressed into the center armrest and the side plates of the hood and back wing. The most remarkable thing about the Panamericana Special has to be the Tag Heuer stopwatch module in the middle console of the 154 car. Tag Heuer made the clocks just for this project. They are unique to this project. Porsche says that the piece on the right is a stopwatch with a scale that helps the driver keep a steady pace during races. The clock on the left, which shows the time, has the classic Heuer Carrera Design. In the first and second rounds of this year’s Carrera Panamericana, actor Patrick Dempsey will drive car 154, while car 152 will be auctioned off for charity in early 2024.
