What makes it what it is

Before Chevy replaces it with an electric car, this will be the last Camaro. This version is based on the fifth-generation Z/28 but is more focused on racing.

What’s in danger?

The fight between the Camaro and the Mustang is among the most heated regarding cars. It’s as American as Ohio State versus Michigan, the Cowboys versus the Eagles, or “Tastes great!” versus “Less filling!” But after this Camaro, the argument might come to an end.

Platform

The Z/28 is built on GM’s Alpha longitudinal-engine chassis, also used for the present Camaro. Multimeric will make the spool-valve dampers, and Brembo will make the carbon-ceramic brakes and calipers for the frame. All the fat will be taken out. Large R-comp tires will give you a grip like a race car.

Powertrain

We’re looking for a version of the Corvette Z06’s 670-hp LT6 that can only make 650 hp due to some restrictions. It’s fine. We’d be okay with an LT6 with 600 horsepower and a six-speed manual gear.

There are a few wrong models of the Dodge Challenger, a Ford Mustang Dark Horse, and a Porsche 718 GT4 RS as competition. However, the 718 GT4 RS should be able to keep up with the GT3 RS on the track.

What Could Happen?

At any given moment, the plug could be taken out. The last Z/28 didn’t sell like crazy, but it has a famous reputation as a reliable track toy. This time, you won’t get rid of the radio and A/C, and the car will likely only come in one style to speed up production. Chevy will only make a certain number (say 1,000 or less) and punish itself if it makes too many.

Price and when to expect it

Chevrolet has said that it will stop making Camaros in 2024. The Z/28 will be the last model made, and sales will start next fall.
