If you talk to a true Porsche fan for more than two minutes, you’ll definitely hear the word “air-cooled” at least 20 times. Even though we are joking, the air-cooled 911 was a big part of Porsche’s past. Hedge fund collectors are still very interested in Porsche 911 with an air-cooling system. Ruf would be a big part of the same discussion. Since the 1980s, Ruf has been improving and remastering Porsche cars. It became famous after the now-famous video of its “Yellowbird” prototype wrecking the favorite Nürburgring track. Ruf is honoring the 60 years of air-cooled vehicles with a ” Tribute car.” The Ruf Tribute, along with the Ruf CTR3 Evo and the Ruf R Spyder, appeared at Monterey Car Week. The air-cooled Tribute stands out, though. The company’s founder, Alois Ruf, made a brand-new air-cooled engine for the Ruf Tribute. The 550 horsepower comes from the 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six engine. The engine’s weight is kept to a minimum by using cylinder heads made of billet aluminum. It also has a four-cam, three-valve setup with variable valve timing and lifts for the first time in an air-cooled engine. The drivetrain has the same modular design as Ruf’s SCR and CTR Anniversary models. The RUF Tribute has a carbon fiber frame and a built-in roll cage if the driver makes a mistake. Aside from these facts, RUF hasn’t said anything about the Tribute. We are still determining how many will be made or if this is a special edition for Monterey Car Week. Whether a limited number or a one-of-a-kind model, the RUF Tribute is probably costly. We’ll inform you about any new information as soon as it arrives.
