We always thought the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse wouldn’t be its best feature, but Ford is heating up early. Though leaked photographs may have shown it, Ford is slated to unveil a track-only “supercar” tomorrow. Yesterday, “sources familiar with the matter,” told Ford Authority a mid-engined Mustang will debut on Thursday, August 17. Images from a Monday Las Vegas premiere event on YouTube and Facebook imply the car will be called the Mustang GTD. Ford Authority sources say the Midstang, as I call it, won’t be built on Multimatic’s S650 platform like the seventh-generation Mustang. Multimatic makes Ford GT, V8 Bronco DR, Mustang GT3, and GT4 race vehicles. Sources believe the model will be sold as a supercar, not a racing car like its IMSA class suggests. The Mustang GTD will debut during Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach, California, tomorrow. However, the GTD we’re seeing only looks mid-engined if another stranger Mustang is coming. It may qualify because many GT race vehicles are front-mid. If Multimatic is in charge, the GTD and its competition may share more than names. They’d be astonished if a Midstang tried to stop me by coming behind us. The mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette was a mystery for years before its release. Even though Mustangs usually have their engines in the front, it makes sense. Ford has said it views its best-selling automobiles as brands. The Mustang made the Mach-E to make something with different specs, like the Bronco Sport. Like General Motors, Ford invented the Mustang with the engine in the middle almost 50 years ago. That was the 1962 Mustang I’s original idea. The design would have made the Mustang as good as the Corvette, even though it didn’t affect the ultimate result. This could also confirm long-rumoured Mustang hybrids and all-wheel drives. However, everything is speculation and a gamble for now. It will be disclosed once we know if the Mustang GTD is a legitimate Ford or a fake posted online to garner attention. Today, many fakes exist, and two hazy photos of a Mustang supercar only tell us a little.
