• People first saw the 911 GT3 R Rennsport at the Rennsport Reunion in Monterey, California, in 2023. Only 77 of them will ever be made.
  • At 9400 rpm, the six-cylinder engine with natural air intake makes 611 horsepower.
  • The regular GT3 R only has the same hood and roof.

Porsche just showed off the 911 GT3 R, which changes what a track toy is because it has so much power and downforce that it’s against the law. It goes against the rules of the FIA event. The Rennsport is based on the competition 911 GT3, which was made to participate in FIA or IMSA events like Le Mans or the Daytona 24, where “Balance of Power” rules are very strict about a vehicle’s weight, gearing, allowed horsepower, and aerodynamics. What if there weren’t such rules, wonders the 911 GT3 Rennsport?

Grant Larson and Thorsten Klein of Porsche’s Style Porsche team made the 911 GT3 Rennsport. They oversee many of the company’s one-of-a-kind and limited-edition projects. All body panels on the homologated race car are different from those on the standard GT3 R. The only parts that are the same are the hood and roof. The only air openings and ground effects on the GT3 R Rennsport are made for it. Even the mirrors have been removed and replaced with a three-camera system showing the driver traffic on a screen inside the cabin.

Of course, we call the other riders “traffic.” The GT3 R Rennsport is about as bad as it gets, and you won’t get away with driving it through a fast-food window. Based on the Brumos Porsche 935/77, the big back wing, which won the 1978 24 Hours of Daytona, has plenty of room for your lunch. A lunch bench is less valuable than the wing. Porsche had to add more support because the downforce was so strong. But since the Rennsport model, like the GT3 R, only has one seat and most of the inside space is occupied by a roll cage, you’ll have to eat alone.

The GT3 R Rennsport is almost the same as the GT3 R below. The car has Michelin tires that are made just for it. The front suspension is made up of control arms with different lengths, while the backrest is made up of links. Porsche Motorsport says the frame is already set up for maximum performance, and the KW Shocks can be adjusted in five ways. Shims that are already there can be used to make minor adjustments.

The unsprung weight of the AP brakes is cut by about two pounds thanks to titanium backing plates under the pads. The brakes are made of a single block of aluminum. Also, the gas tank has lost the same amount of weight. No air conditioning is available. The driver stays cool on a seat with vents. The curb weight is meant to be 2734 pounds.

There are seven different colors for your GT3 Rennsport. Ruby Star is the desired color, and you should like it. However, Agate Grey and raw carbon are the most common colors. There will also be three paint jobs based on Porsche’s past: one based on the Corkscrew at Laguna Seca, one in the classic red and white of Porsche Motorsport, and one in different shades of blue. Even if the car they are on is a cheater, all GT3 Rennsports have 18-inch BBS wheels that meet the technical standards of a center-locking competition wheel.

Power is one of the most essential rules in FIA racing, but the GT3 R Rennsport needs to follow those rules. The Rennsport uses the standard GT3 R’s 4.2-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine. However, instead of the usual 557 horsepower, the direct injection has been changed to run on E25 bioethanol and eFuel, but it can also run on regular gasoline. A sequential six-speed transmission sends the power to the back wheels. The GT3 R Rennsport goes 12 mph faster than the GT3 R because it has a new sixth gear and paddle shifters on the steering wheel. There are unmuffled versions if you want to hear them, but the buy page also has two muted and catalytic convertor versions if you’re going to hear something else or compete at a track that has decibel restrictions. The $1,046,000 Porsche GT3 R Rennsport will only be made in 77 copies, so put in your order as soon as possible.
