Ferrari has won more Formula One world championships than any other team, but it is also known for bringing in past winners and having them fail miserably when they join the team. When Alain Prost joined the team in 1990, he and many other people had the same experience, but at least he got a nice car out of it. The vehicle in question is on the market right now.

Prost was given a Ferrari F40 when he joined the Formula One team in 1990. He thought that season would be the year he won the title. At the time, the race car was famous for how fast it could go. When it came out in 1987, it was the fastest production car in the world. Its 471-horsepower 2.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine gave it a top speed of 201 mph. If that sounds interesting, you’re in luck because RM Sotheby’s is currently selling Prost’s car.

After Enzo Ferrari died, Prost was the first driver to be signed by an F1 team. When he joined the team, he had just won his third Formula One championship, and the year before, he had beaten his McLaren teammate Ayrton Senna. But Prost’s time at Ferrari would be short and mostly alone. He was fired in the middle of 1991 because he had publicly said that the team wasn’t doing well after coming in second place in 1990.

In any case, Ferrari made Prost’s F40, which has chassis number 83249, in 1989. It didn’t have changeable suspension or catalytic converters, which collectors were said to like. Prost told RM Sotheby’s that he never drove the car after getting it, which is a big deal. But for a short time in 1990, it was listed in France under Prost’s name.

After F1 driver Prost signed the car’s roof, ownership was given to Ferrari collector Graham de Zille. Even though the signature was sealed with a clear coat, you can still see it in fine detail. Since then, it has changed hands many times, but it is still in France.

The car is fully certified by Ferrari Classie and has only been driven 2,900 km. This shows that the vehicle still uses its original frame, body, engine, and transmission. The F40’s last significant work, which involved replacing its fuel tanks, was done in 2019. They are still up to date and good until 2028, which should give the car’s next owner some peace of mind. The sale includes the car’s original front spoiler, owner’s instructions, repair manual, tools, and a history file. A set of Sheldon bags is made just for the F40 that matches.

The F40 of Prost is an interesting case. On the one hand, it used to belong to a famous person and is the last Ferrari supercar that Enzo approved personally. Prost says he pays little attention to the car. No matter what, RM Sotheby’s thinks the car will sell on May 10 for between $2.7 and $3.3 million. This means that Prost’s name will carry some weight in the sale since the price is slightly higher than the current average of about $2.2 million.
