• The KC23 is a unique work of art made by the Special Projects section of Ferrari in Maranello, Italy.
  • The KC23 has the powerful V-8 engine of a 488 GT3 Evo race car and the looks of earlier Ferraris.
  • Ferrari says that the car is made for non-competitive track use. It will be seen for the first time anywhere in the world at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 13 to 16.

The KC23, a new, customised Ferrari from Maranello’s Special Projects program, has been shown off before its foreign debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The one-of-a-kind car is built on the 488 GT3 Evo race car and has some design elements from earlier Ferrari models. It shows what the company’s future might look like.

The KC23 is the following Special Projects car after last year’s BR20, SP51, SP48 Unica, and BR20, based on the GTC4Lusso. Even though all vehicles can be driven on public roads, the KC23 is only for racing.

Under the hood is still the twin-turbo V-8 engine from the 488 GT3 race car, but Ferrari hasn’t said how much power it can make. We know the engine can make much more than the 591 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque that the FIA says it can for the 488 GT3. In a news release, Ferrari said, “From the start, the KC23 was meant to be radical and free of homologation restrictions.”

This desire to ignore caution is shown by the fact that Ferrari took ideas from its Vision Gran Turismo design and its Le Mans-winning 499P. With the electronically controlled moveable panels on each side and the vast motorsport-sized retractable rear wing at the back, any thought of homologation is out the window. The front fascia is a thin, low-slung wedge that quickly splits into several aerodynamic parts, including a giant diffuser at the back of the car. The car has two-piece centre-lock wheels and, based on where the rear wing and side air vents are placed, can have a beautiful, sleek, robust, dominating look.

The interior of the 488 GT3 race car, which was used to make the KC23, looks like it has so many buttons that it would take a whole season of Crash Course to explain what each one does. Even though the air conditioning vents are a great way to keep the driver cool while doing fast runs, the interior is all about how well the car does on the track. There is also a roll cage for safety, and instead of a standard rearview mirror, there are three screens.

Like every other Special Projects car before it, the KC23 was bought by a dedicated Ferrari buyer, and the price has yet to be made public. This one-of-a-kind Ferrari differs from most others because it is evident that fans can get a close look at it. Ferrari said the car will be displayed from August 1 to October 2 at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello. The public first saw it at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK from July 13 to 16.
