• Posts on X say that the Petersen Auto Museum held a sale where the first 2024 Tesla Cybertruck was bought.
  • The angled truck cost $400,000, and people had to pay at least $1750 to get into the event.
  • It’s unknown how many motors this early-VIN version of the Cybertruck has because Tesla still needs to confirm the production specs.

Lastly, it looks like the Tesla Cybertruck is being made. Posts on social media over the weekend said a 2024 Cybertruck was sold at auction at the Petersen Auto Museum during a meeting. InsideEVs.com says the truck supposedly sold for $400,000.

Jay Leno hosted the 29th Petersen’s Gala, where the sale occurred. An order for a table costs $17,500, and a “premier” table costs $30,000. This is on top of the $1750 entry fee. Messages on X, the site that took the place of Twitter, show that the truck sold at auction for $400,000. This makes it clear that the visitors are very wealthy. They said they couldn’t tell us the exact amount when we called the museum to confirm it “due to internal fundraising policies.”

This will be the first Cybertruck officially sold if the deal goes through. The strange pickup, shown for the first time in 2019, was meant to go into production in 2021 but kept getting pushed back. The winner will get a low-VIN Cybertruck “when Tesla completes production,” according to a museum spokesman. This means this auction is for a build slot instead of a vehicle, even though the museum said that gala guests could bid on a “low-VIN” 2024 Cybertruck.

In the past few months, Cybertrucks have been pulled behind flatbeds more often for testing. Tesla said that early cars would start coming off the assembly line this year, but full-scale production would not start until 2024. Elon Musk wrote on X on July 15 that the first Cybertruck had been made at the company’s workshop in Giga, Texas.

An electric truck with a lot of value was sold at an auction. The first Hummer EV SUT truck sold at Barrett Jackson for $2.5 million in 2021. The first 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV sold at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale in January for $500,000.

When will my package arrive?

On the other hand, Tesla still needs to set a firm date for the Cybertruck’s first public delivery. Also, the carmaker hasn’t said anything about the production-spec pickup’s specs. The base price would be around $40,000. It has yet to be determined which of the planned models will be built in 2024 if any will be built at all. The base model has a single motor and rear-wheel drive, while the top-of-the-line model has three engines and excellent performance.

Tesla recently released a video of the Cybertruck driving on a wet road in Baja, Mexico. This proves that the vehicle is accurate and its release date is approaching.
