Alfa Romeo showed off the Milano crossover, a small electric car. There will be two choices for the front-wheel drive electric powertrain. Each one has one motor that makes 154 or 237 horsepower. The Milano also comes with a turbocharged three-cylinder hybrid engine that can be set up with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Starting in 2027, Alfa Romeo only wanted to make electric cars. There have been rumors of a 1000-hp Giulia Quadrifoglio sports sedan replacement and a big flagship SUV, but the Italian brand’s first electric car isn’t either of those things. Later this year, the Milano will go on sale in Europe. It will come with both electric and hybrid drivetrains. In the United States, it’s not possible that the 164-inch-long subcompact crossover will be available. The Milano is, without question, the most stylish of the three crossovers that are sold in Europe. However, it is very similar to the Jeep Avenger and the Fiat 600e. For the sportier models, the sporty stance is combined with fancy four-spoke wheels and a unique grille design featuring a mesh pattern topped with a cutout of the brand’s snake-and-cross logo. A new version of the company’s signature “telephone dial” wheels and an old-school Alfa Romeo script on the chrome triangle grille can also give the car a more polished look. To set itself apart from its Stellantis siblings, the Milano has a dynamic steering wheel and a gauge cluster case with a 10.3-inch display known as the “telescope” design. The air vents on the outside look like the brand’s quadrifoglio logo, and the 10.3-inch tablet in the middle faces the driver. There is a 54.0-kWh battery and a single electric motor in the Milano Elettrica, which can make 154 or 237 horsepower. Only the Alfa Romeo has a system with 237 horsepower. The Jeep and Fiat both have the same amount of battery space but a less powerful option. Using Europe’s WLTP test cycle, Alfa Romeo says the 154-hp Milano will be able to go about 250 miles on a single charge. The front wheels of both types are driven. With a 100-kW DC fast charger, it should take less than 30 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80%. However, a hybrid form of the Milano Ibrida will be offered with both front and all-wheel drive. A turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 28-hp electric motor. This is the only hybrid powertrain offered. Electricity comes from a 48-volt lithium-ion battery, and the total output is said to be 134 horsepower. Alfa Romeo says that the Milano Ibrida will run mostly on electricity for more than half of the time when traveling in cities. The sportiest Veloce model has a lower ride height and different anti-roll bars in the front and back. The Veloce has 20-inch wheels and 15-inch front brake discs clamped by four-piston calipers. It also has a mechanical self-locking Torsen differential to help spread power. In Europe, you can now buy the Milano Speciale launch version, but people in the US will have to wait longer for an electric Alfa Romeo in 2019.
