• BMW showed off a strong new M5 Touring wagon at this year’s Monterey Car Week.
  • BMW says the Touring’s plug-in hybrid engine, which is based on the M5 sedan, can reach 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and has 717 horsepower.
  • If the speed isn’t enough to make you want to buy it, the M5 Touring is an even better daily driver than the M5. Dealers think they’ll get it by the beginning of 2025.

The 2025 BMW M5 Touring is now available in the United States, giving car fans the chance to buy a station wagon with the M5 logo. It has the same plug-in hybrid motor as the four-door M5, but the sports sedan with a panoramic roof has a lot more room for cargo.

The first M-Car station wagon in the US is the Longroof BMW M5 Touring

A 194-hp electric motor and a 577-hp twin-turbocharged V-8 engine make up this drivetrain, which has 717 horsepower. The eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are considered standard features. The M5 Touring is rear-drive when the rear-biased all-wheel-drive system is turned off.

There has already been much discussion about the new M5, which weighs 5,390 pounds, more than 1,100 pounds more than the previous model sedan. BMW says the Touring will weigh about 5,530 pounds, which is even more. Still, there’s no question that these two M vehicles will have a lot of power.

BMW says that the M5 Touring would take 3.5 seconds to reach 60 mph, which is 0.1 seconds longer than the M5 car. The normal car can only go as fast as 155 mph, but with the extra M Driver’s package, it can go faster than 190 mph.

When we drove a concept M5 Touring for the first time in Europe, we were blown away by how well it drove and became less worried about its weight. The plug-in hybrid powertrain not only gives it a visible boost but also lets you take short trips of up to 25 miles without using gasoline. That way, when you get to some open road, you can enjoy the high octane in the gas tank.

This kind of machine should cost a lot, which is $122,675, which is $2,000 more than the M5 car. The M5 Touring’s main natural rival is the Audi RS6 Avant, which has fewer horsepower but a similar high price.

The M5 Touring comes with a panoramic sunroof, leather seats, ambient lighting inside, a curved touchscreen screen with Drive 8.5, a head-up display, built-in navigation, and a lot of other nice luxury features. BMW’s program lets you customize your car in almost infinite ways, such as choosing from a wide range of colors for the outside and special Merino Metallic leather choices for the inside.

The M5 Touring will start being made later this year, and sellers in the United States expect them to arrive in early 2025. In the meantime, think about a future test that compares the BMW and Audi hi-po wagons.
