In 20 years, the car industry will reflect on the competition between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and his Cybertruck and Ford CEO Jim Farley and the F-150 Lightning as one of the most important in modern times. These two white-collar managers have been bad-mouthing each other about their companies’ decisions to hire people. This adds to the mystery of the most recent report of a Cybertruck. On the Cybertruck Owners Club website, there are now a lot of pictures of Cyber Trucks that are said to be parked inside Tesla’s international engineering offices. The sharing of the photos is an interesting story in and of itself, but it’s even funnier that one of the trucks has a unique wrap to emphasize how “boring” the Ford F-150 is. A few wrapped-up Cybertrucks have been seen out and about in the streets lately: most of these trucks have artsy camouflage vinyl, which is typical for cars not for sale. But for Tesla to put a picture of another company’s best car on the side of their own, it would have to be a clever fake. The wrap goes around the Cybertruck’s front and sides. It shows how the Ford looks from the side, including the headlights, hood, and door handles. It’s not clear if the back of the truck matches the back gate of the F-150, but I’m ready to bet that it does. Even though Tesla is trying to tease the Blue Oval car company by sharing some well-known pictures, Ford may have the last laugh. The Mega Power Frunk resembles something the Cybertruck took from the F-150 Lightning’s playbook. At the very least, the front trunk should open up to waist height. This makes it easier to load and unload the Ford. The Cybertruck has used a similar line of thinking, though the room and storage design is still unknown because none of the leaked pictures show any plastics inside. Even without the plastics, the frunk has little space inside. The small trunk space could be changed for a bigger cabin. During the last quarterly earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk raved about the Cybertruck’s roomy cab. However, there will always be a trade-off between hard points, design, and helpful capacity. This is the first truck with four doors, a bed longer than six feet, and can fit into a 20-foot garage. It looks big on the outside but much more prominent on the inside. When something is well-designed, it should feel more extensive on the inside than on the outside. This isn’t a tiny car, either. In a recent interview with The Drive, Linda Zhang, who is the chief engineer for the Ford F-150 Lightning, said that the Mega Power Frunk was a significant improvement for the car because it made one of the most wanted pickup truck features even better: dry, lockable storage. If Tesla didn’t put a hold on the Cybertruck’s trunk, it might think that customers would use the bed’s motorized tonneau cover, also called “the vault,” as dry, safe storage space instead. Before, the length of the Cybertruck was said to be 231.7 inches or just over 19 feet. Tesla says that the Cybertruck is one of the few cars with a full-size cab and a six-foot bed that can fit in a 20-foot garage, but this size may have changed due to final changes. It is about the same length as a Ford F-150 with a 5.5-foot bed and similar specs. A week ago, Tesla’s new production line in Texas finished making one of the first Cyber Trucks that could be sold to the public. Tesla says it will start sending out the Cybertruck by the end of the year, but an official date has yet to be set.
