Genesis showed off the GV60 Magma concept car before the New York Auto Show. A production model is coming out soon, and it’s expected to inspire the building of even more high-performance Magma vehicles. Genesis has said that it will make a Magma version of every car in its current range. In addition to the luxurious Neolun idea, Genesis announced tonight that it will also start a subbrand that focuses on performance. The GV60 Magma concept car was first shown at a party held before the New York Auto Show. The Korean luxury brand says that the powerful GV60 version is almost ready to be made and will be on the road soon. It might be the first Magma car ever made. The GV60 Magma idea was based on Hyundai’s first electric car, which is the same platform as the Ioniq 5 and the Kia EV6. The Ioniq 5 N and the EV6 GT, the GV60’s two siblings, already have performance models. The Ioniq 5 N will be offered in the US later this year. Genesis didn’t give us any technical information about the GV60 Magma, but we wouldn’t be surprised if it shared parts with the Ioniq 5 N (641 hp) or the EV6 GT (576 hp). Genesis did show off the stunning design, which is based on the GV60’s strong, short shape and features a spiky rear wing and big wheel arches with two vents. A bigger air opening has been added to the front bumper to help keep the batteries, motor, and brakes cool. The back bumper now has a big diffuser on it. The Magma idea is powered by special fins that stick out from the roof and send airflow to the back wing. Plus, it has beautiful 21-inch aero-disc wheels. The inside is said to have orange-stitched nappa and suede leather bucket seats, but Genesis hasn’t shared any pictures. Genesis also showed off a number of other cars that are thought to be part of the Magma program, along with the GV60 Magma. The first one was the concept GV80 Coupe, which made its appearance before the New York Auto Show the previous year and was the first car to have a unique Magma paint color. A less fancy production model came out in November, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the GV80 Coupe Magma came out soon. The company also made the G80 Magma Special, a sportier form of its mid-size luxury sedan that can only be bought in the Middle East. The last one was the X Gran Berlinetta concept, a sleek car made for the computer game Gran Turismo that was shown off in December of last year. Genesis says it will make a “high-performance” Magma version of all of its current models, such as the GV60 EV and the G70, G80, and G90 cars. These models include the GV70, GV80, and GV90 crossovers. Now that the company has teamed up with Jacky Ickx, six-time Le Mans winner, we’re excited to see how fast the Magma versions can go. He drove the GV60 Magma idea and had nothing but good things to say about it.
