Bahrain is now the sole owner of McLaren. Mumtalakat, the Bahraini fund that owns the whole McLaren Group, used to have the most shares in the company. The McLaren Group owns most of what it does, including the sports car company and the racing teams that compete in Formula One, IndyCar, Formula E, and Extreme E. Bahrain’s national wealth fund bought McLaren after years of desperate attempts to stay in business. Mumtalakat, the Bahraini fund, owned most of McLaren’s single stock until today. But right now, the fund owns the whole McLaren Group. The company says that the change in ownership “marks a major milestone” and should help the business become more stable after several years of tough production and job cuts. The company has been having money problems since 2020. Since then, the automaker has had to sell its offices and collection of classic cars to pay for the development of the Artura.
