• Genesis has made it clear that the GV80 Coupe will be made.
  • This concept car version is different from SUVs because it has a sloping roof and a more sporty interior.
  • We expect it to come to the U.S. for the 2025 model year.

Even though the concept car looks like it could be made into a real car, we now know for sure that the Genesis GV80 Coupe will be made into a real car soon. At the 2023 New York Auto Show, a Genesis spokesman told C/D that the story was true. As a more sporty alternative to the current GV80 mid-size luxury SUV, this new model will go up against cars like the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe.

When we looked into the idea, we found that it is a development of the winged logo for the Genesis brand. The new mark is darker and less three-dimensional than the chrome emblem on Genesis cars that are already on the market. Even though the company hasn’t said if this logo will be on all future models or not, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it on the GV80 Coupe when it comes out.

Genesis has kept quiet about the GV80 Coupe’s technical details, but we think the most likely engine option will be a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6. The standard 2.5-liter turbo-four won’t be available in the Coupe. The idea also has a cabin with room for four people, which could end up in the real car. However, we don’t think the racing-style bucket seats will make it into the real car. Magma, a bright orange exterior color that stands out, may only be used on concept cars in the future.

The 3.5T version of the SUV starts at $64,075, but the GV80 Coupe is likely to cost several thousand dollars more. At this point, Genesis won’t say when the car will come out, but we expect it to come out in the 2025 model year.
