The Honda e: Ny1 electric S.U.V. was unveiled today and will soon be for sale in Europe. The e: Ny1 has a new, elegant exterior and a redesigned interior with a 15.1-inch tablet, just like the HR-V sold in Europe. In Europe’s W.L.T.P. test run, Honda says the e: Ny1 can drive 256 kilometer’s on a single charge and power the front wheels. Honda’s first fully electric car for the U.S.U.S. market, the Prologue S.U.V., won’t be ready until 2024; the company just showed off its second E.V.E. in Europe. The Honda E: Ny1 is built on the Honda E hatchback, but it has a more modern, streamlined look instead of the classic style. The e: NS1 and e: NP1 SUVs sold in China are similar to the e: Ny1. Honda and Dongfeng work together to sell the e: NS1, and Honda and G.A.C. work together to sell the e: NP1. The e: Ny1 looks a lot like the Honda HR-V sold in Europe, which is a more petite but more beautiful S.U.V. than the Honda HR-V sold in the U.SU.S. The head has been covered up, and the front bumper has been made simpler. This should make the e: Ny1 more aerodynamic. As part of Honda’s new branding plan, the S.U.V. has white Honda logos to show off its electric drivetrain. But the inside is very different from the inside of the HR-V. The dashboard redesign is centered on a 15.1-inch tablet that controls almost everything. The digital gauge cluster is now in the shape of a simple square. Ambient lighting lights up the doors, and Honda says that the electric powertrain’s combined drive unit, electric motor, and gearbox make it easier to pack, giving the car more space inside. The electric motor sends 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels, which is enough power to compete in the European market. Europe’s more forgiving W.L.T.P. the test cycle gives the 68.8-kWh lithium-ion battery a range of 256 miles, and Honda says the D.C.D.C. fast-charging technology will charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes. The e: NY1 is not likely to come to the United States. Instead, Honda is working closely with General Motors to make electric cars for the American market. The Prologue and the Z.D.X., the Acura version of the Prologue, will be built on G.M.’sG.M.’s Ultrium base. Honda and Sony are also working together to make the new electric vehicle brand Acela, which will come out in 2026. Honda thinks that the e: Ny1 will do better in Europe than the Honda E did in the first two years it was on the market.
