• The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is hinted at by a picture of the truck’s tailgate.
  • The TRD Pro pickup version will be available again, as shown by the teaser image.
  • The picture also shows that the company plans to put a hybrid drivetrain in the next Taco.

Soon, you’ll be able to buy a new Toyota Tacoma. It won’t come today, which is too bad. Toyota chose to show a teaser image of its upcoming mid-size pickup rather than a complete picture.

The picture shows the right rear taillight and tailgate of the truck. A small amount of the 2024 Tacoma’s back bumper can also be seen. But what does this picture tell us?

Because the tailgates and taillights on both trucks are the same, the back of the next-generation Taco will look like the back of the full-size Tundra. In this teaser, the tailgate shows a little more about the trim and engine choices for the 2024 Tacoma.

For example, the “TRD Pro” logo means the most capable off-road Tacoma model will return soon. Like the current Tacoma TRD Pro, the 2024 model will have more off-road features to set it apart from the rest of the Tacoma lineup. We expect the new truck to have Fox-brand shocks and many underbody skid plates. A suspension upgrade should give the car more ground clearance and better approach, break over, and departure angles.

The iForce Max logo in the bottom right corner of the teaser image shows that the Tacoma will be powered by a hybrid system that uses gasoline and electricity. Take note that Toyota puts iForce before the Max name instead of Hybrid.

The gasoline-electric powertrain that gives the Crown sedan its 340-hp is called the Hybrid Max by Toyota. (It will also power the 362 horses in the Grand Highlander when it comes out.)

Even though Toyota might offer the four-cylinder-based Hybrid Max as an option in lower Tacoma grades, the first teaser for the new truck indicates that the upcoming Tacoma TRD Pro will use the Tundra’s six-cylinder. Even though it might make a little less power in the Tacoma, this setup gives the Tundra 437 horsepower. The hybrid TRD Pro should be able to compete with the upcoming Ford Ranger Raptor when it comes to powerful mid-size off-road trucks.
