• The new Hyundai Kona, which will come out in 2024, is more extensive and has more excellent features than the old one.
  • It will come with a beautiful front light bar called “seamless horizon” as a standard feature.
  • By the year’s end, gas-powered and electric cars will be available in the United States.

Sangyup Lee, the company’s vice president of design, says that owners of the first-generation Hyundai Kona had only two significant concerns. This was because the subcompact SUV had a small space for cargo and tight seats in the back. You won’t be surprised that these problems have been fixed in the latest version.

This is not a significant change but rather a small change to a formula that has worked well in the past. The new 2024 Kona is up to 6.9 inches long and has a wheelbase that is 2.4 inches longer than the current one. It has a unique design for its slimmed-down front seats, which offer the same level of comfort and support as the seats in the old car while also giving the back passengers more legroom because they are 30% narrower. After riding in an early model, the back of the 2024 car seems to have much more space. Hyundai says that the trunk space went from 13 cubic feet to 17 cubic feet with the back seats.

New Face for Space

The most noticeable changes to the current generation’s design are a single full-width light bar that Hyundai calls “seamless horizon” and a red taillight graphic that matches the one on the front. Sangyup Lee says that this new part is the most complicated part of the car to make. The show looks very futuristic and reminds me of at least one character from a Star Wars movie. The actual headlights are two much smaller ones on either side of the bumper, much lower down.

As before, there will be Kona models that run on gas and electricity. Our sources say a hybrid will also be available in other parts of the world but not in the United States. The body color body cladding will be the most noticeable difference between the Kona Electric and the regular model. The outside of cars that run on gasoline is grey. The top-of-the-line N Line, a trim level and not a flashy performance edition, will also have body-color protection, a cute (but a little silly) two-piece rear spoiler, and a bigger opening in the front bumper. Still, this rule is flexible.

Better interior design

Also, the inside of the car feels much better than the one it replaced. The new Kona has two 12.3-inch touchscreens, one in the middle for entertainment and one in front of the driver for information. Even so, Hyundai has yet to completely switch to digital, as shown by the fact that the Kona still has traditional climate controls under a row of function shortcut buttons. According to our sources, none of the company’s future models will eliminate traditional buttons, which is excellent news. Even though the floor of the Kona Electric is flat, the tunnel in the combustion models is still tiny.

Even though we don’t have the final US specs yet, we expect that the more expensive models will have a lot of extra features. The front power seats were heated and cooled on the cars we saw made in Europe, and a video system showed everything around you. Hyundai also wants to make it possible to lock and unlock it using the NFC Near Field Communication feature found on smartphones and smartwatches. All versions will be able to get software updates over the air. The Kona lineup features a conventional gear selector on the column to the side of the driver’s seat and steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. These controls allow the driver to pick different ratios in combustion-powered models or varying levels of regeneration in electric vehicles.

Hyundai was more excited about the new Kona EV than it was about its gasoline siblings. This is because the combustion versions, which will come with either a 2.0-liter engine or a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that is more powerful, will be almost the same as the old model. We will know the car’s exact performance numbers when the New York Auto Show in April, but both front-drive and all-wheel drive will still be available.

Information on the Kona EV

We do have more information, though, about the Kona Electric. Hyundai plans to sell the EV in two different versions in some markets. Still, in the United States, we can only expect to see the more powerful model with its 65.4 kWh battery pack and 214 horsepower single front motor.

The current model has a slightly smaller battery and is rated at 258 miles by the EPA. Hyundai aims for a WLTP range of more than 305 miles in Europe, likely translating to an EPA rating of around 260 miles. Even though it won’t be able to charge as quickly as the Ioniq 5’s ultra-fast 800-volt architecture, Hyundai says that the Electric will charge from 10% to 80% in 41 minutes at top speed. This is about half as fast as the Ioniq 5 or Kia EV6, or about 75 kW on average from a DC charger. The Kona Electric will also be able to charge from “vehicle to load,” making it a huge power source.

Even though there are no plans to replace the Kona N, Hyundai says it may build a more powerful EV with all-wheel drive from a second motor in the back. Engineers at the company agree that this car is the perfect fit for the N brand. I hope that happens because the idea of a Kona with 430 hp is exciting.
