• As planned, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa said that the Gladiator 4xe plug-in hybrid will be released next year.
  • The Wrangler 4xe and the Gladiator 4xe will both have the same engine. The Wrangler 4xe has an electric motor and a turbocharged inline-four that makes 375 horsepower.
  • Later this year, we should have more details about the Gladiator 4xe.

Hybrid cars, which were once thought to only be for extreme environmentalists, have become more popular over the last ten years as gas-electric powertrains have become the norm in the auto business. A nice illustration of this is the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. It is the most famous plug-in hybrid in the US and still has its classic boxy shape even though it has new running gear. Finally, Jeep has said that a Gladiator 4xe model will be ready next year.

The Jeep Gladiator 4xe will have the Wrangler's plug-in engine next year

Antonio Filosa, Jeep’s CEO, said on LinkedIn that the plug-in hybrid truck will be out soon, but he didn’t say anything else. Aside from the blue accents and emblems already on the plug-in Wrangler, we don’t think the 4xe will get any major external changes. For the 2024 model year, Jeep just updated the Gladiator with a new 12.3-inch tablet and some small changes to the grille.

The Gladiator is like a pickup truck version of the Wrangler, so the plug-in engine will not be different between the new Gladiator 4xe and the current Wrangler 4xe. The Wrangler 4xe has a 2.0-liter inline-four turbocharged engine that can make 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This has a 34-hp electric motor built in, which makes 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. A 17.0 kWh lithium-ion battery pack can go more than 21 miles. We expect the Gladiator 4xe to come out later this year with all of its features.
