A report from Wednesday says that the 2024 Cadillac Lyre-V, the company’s first performance electric car, will have the same amount of power as the regular all-wheel-drive version. A trim guide was sent out by mistake by a dealer and kept and sent to us today to confirm that. Let’s start with the speed components which make the Lyrid-V a V-series phone. It has 450 pound-feet of torque and 500 horsepower to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds. Because Lyrics weighs almost three tons, the V-series has big Brembo brakes with 20-inch front and 18-inch back rotors. The Lyrid-V comes with 275-section summer tires on 22-inch metal wheels. But it needs to be discovered how much their range is cut. The Lyriq-V will have adjustable damping, which will not be available on cheaper trims. This will make up for the lower ride quality. It will also have cosmetic changes that improve performance, like a front splitter, rocker inserts, and back valence inserts made of carbon fiber, gloss black, or a mix of the two. Also, the Lyriq-V, the top trim, will have features that are standard on lower models or unavailable on those trims. Some features include a heated leather steering wheel, a tri-zone climate control system, cushioned front seats, and an AKG Studio 19-speaker sound system. Standard features include the Trailer Prep kit, which lets you tow up to 3,500 pounds, and the 19.2-kW AC charger. The book doesn’t name prices, but they will start in the low $80,000s. It’s sad, but not surprising that the Lyriq-V seems to be a warmed-over version of a cruising-focused driving experience rather than a full-fledged performance EV. Also, the cheaper trims don’t have adaptive damping, which is a shame because it would have made an already excellent luxury EV even better. Cadillac must make the Lyriq stand out from future, more expensive versions, even if that means making its cars less competitive. Some things never change.
