In 2024, Lexus will make a brand-new version of the midsize GX SUV, which will look very different. The GX550 comes standard with a 3.4-liter V-6 engine that has been twin-turbocharged to produce 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. A combination will show up in the future. There is an Overtrail type with 33-inch tires and a rear differential that can be locked off-road. The Lexus GX, a famous mid-size SUV among off-roaders and overlanders, will look like the Mercedes G-Wagen by 2024. The new GX550 will also have a new trim level called Overtrail that is only for off-road use. The Land Cruiser’s new look shows off its body-on-frame solid design, intelligent four-wheel-drive system, and long history. The new GX is much bigger than the old one and is built on the same frame as the even bigger Lexus LX. We must understand why Lexus keeps selling both types in the U.S. since the RX is only a few inches shorter than the LX and has the same wheelbase. Even though the Overtrail is only available with two rows and five seats, most GX models have a third row that can fit six or seven people. Instead of a tailboard that opened to the side, there is now a traditional power liftgate with a glass piece that opens individually. You can use power to fold down the third row. All cars have a centre locking differential and four-wheel drive with a low range as standard features. The GX550 has a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine and a 10-speed automatic drive. This engine also runs the Toyota Tundra, Toyota Sequoia, and Lexus LX600. In the GX550, it makes 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Lexus says the fuel economy is 17 mpg combined, better than the 16 mpg combined fuel economy of the old V-8 GX460. Lexus says that a hybrid will be available in the future. This technology will be like the iForce Max in the Tundra and Sequoia, but it will have more horsepower from an electric motor and use less gas. Like the LX, the GX has a front suspension separate from the rest of the car and a fixed axle in the back. Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) technology can still be used to turn off the front and rear anti-roll bars, but it is done electronically this time. You can always get adaptive springs. The Overtrail now has skid plates, 33-inch all-terrain tires, and 18-inch wheels. Locking the rear axle is an option as well. Since the old GX had been around for more than ten years, it’s not surprising that the panel of the new GX looks much more modern than the old one. The most current Lexus infotainment system with improved voice commands is built into a 14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster takes up most of the driver’s view. Two knobs and touch-sensitive buttons control the HVAC system. Switches and buttons on the centre console near the shifter control the four-wheel-drive system, drive modes, and differential locks. The Premium and Premium+ trim levels are the most expensive, while the Luxury and Luxury models should have more options (Lexus still needs to list the features offered by trim). These will have captain’s chairs or a bench in the second row. The Overtrail has improvements for off-road driving and more visual changes, while the Overtrail+ has more features like the Luxury trim. The Luxury grade can pull 6990 pounds behind it, while the Luxury+ can tow 6780 pounds behind it. Both the Premium and Overtrail models can pull up to 8,000 pounds. The Overtrail will come in eleven different colours on the outside and a few two-toned combos with a black roof, like the top image’s Earth and Black. The green suede accents on the seats of the Overtrail are a nice touch. The standard interior is fake leather, but better grades come with semi-aniline leather. We don’t know how much the 2024 GX will cost, but it will be more than the $59,275-$69,930 range for the previous model. It will be made in Japan, and sellers in the United States should start getting it in early 2024.
