Maserati showed off its new GT2 race car the day before the 24 Hours of Spa. Later this year, the MC20-powered mid-engine vehicle will start racing, following in the footsteps of the MC12. The Maserati GT2 has the same twin-turbo Nettuno V-6 engine as the MC20 road car but has been changed to meet GT2 rules. It will have better aerodynamics and the safety gear to compete through the 2024 season. The MC12 was the car that came before the MC20. From 2005 to 2010, it was the best in the GT class. Maserati has been putting the GT2 through its paces at the Autodromo Varano de’ Melegari and the Monza circuits. It has never been seen before without a cover. Added to a plan Racing has always been a part of who we are and what we love. “Our journey began on the track and moved to the road,” said CEO Davide Grasso. The choice to go back to track racing is part of a big plan that started this year with a debut in Formula E and now includes a return to the GT racing circuit. We want to bring back and feed the competing spirit that has always made us who we are and pushed us to reach higher than ever before.
