Mecum Auctions displayed a Fast and Furious collectible modelled on Mazda’s renowned FD-generation RX-7. Like many sports cars made in the 1990s, this car continues to increase in value among collectors and car enthusiasts as they prepare for their 36th Original Spring Classic event in Indianapolis. This 1993 model is notable not only for its many changes and eye-catching paint job but also because Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto, drove it in the first Fast and Furious movie as one of five RX-7s. In the second movie in the multibillion-dollar 2 Fast 2 Furious series, Ambury Nolasco’s character, Orange Julius, gave it a new look. The FD still had its bright yellow logos and House of Koror Orange Pearl paint job. A Modern Image skin was put on top of a J-spec body kit and a Versus body kit. With 18-inch Raja wheels, the FD still looks like it was made in the early 2000s. The outside of the car seems fine, except for a few rock chips, paint flaws, and a small piece of broken fiberglass on the front bumper, right in front of the wheel on the passenger side and the side skirt. It has been well taken care of since it was fixed up 20 years ago. Only two gauges are on the dashboard, and the standard seats and harnesses have been replaced with Parco Sprint seats and harnesses. From the pictures, it looks like the back inside walls were sprayed black, but both are easy to change. The edges of the gauge set, the Centre stack, and the shifter all had silver paint. The stock tank is back in use, and many LED light wands are installed inside and in the back cargo area. The fuel cell, which used to work during certain scenes, is now just a showpiece. The only changes to the engine room are a Megan shock tower bar and a Koyo radiator. Under the hood is the original, unaltered 13B. The sign “stunt car only #33” on the intake pipes can still be seen. Under the hood, the sheet metal looks like it was sprayed with matte black paint that lets some red show through. There are also a few spots of Orange Pearl overspray near the headlights. Remember that this car was made for a movie, so it will probably have flaws. On the other hand, it is an integral part of both car and movie history. The Mecum website says that the car has had about $40,000 worth of repairs and servicing, including new wiring and repairs to the engine and gearbox that still need to be made public. In addition to the VIN and the cars used in the first two movies, the auction winner will get an outfit like the one Orange Julius wore in 2F2F if they want to get into character. Mecum thinks this classic Mazda will cost between $175,000 and $250,000 because it is a real piece of Hollywood history. From May 12 to 20, 3,000 cars will be for sale at the 36th Dana Mecum Original Spring Classic in Indianapolis. This RX-7 will be one of them.
