• Ayrton Senna was a famous racecar driver who won three world titles for McLaren. The Senna’s Sempre color is a tribute to him.
  • At the Monaco Grand Prix, McLaren not only showed off a one-of-a-kind paint job for the MCL38, but they also made a special ode to Senna’s hypercar with the same name.
  • The road car’s livery was made by hand by McLaren’s own Special Operations team. It will be shown at the Monaco Grand Prix.

It’s been thirty years since Ayrton Senna died at the San Marino Grand Prix. In honor of the event, McLaren will decorate both of its MCL38 race cars in a way that looks like Senna’s at the Monaco Grand Prix on May 26.

The McLaren Senna Sempre's paint job is a tribute to the famous racist

Between 1988 and 1993, Senna had five very successful years at McLaren. He won three Formula One world titles, even though he was driving for Williams when he died. Because he was so important to McLaren’s past, the company named their most powerful car after him.

An early Senna hypercar from McLaren’s history collection was added to the F1 cars, along with a hand-painted uniform called “Senna Sempre,” which means “Senna Always.”

The road car and race car use yellow, green, and blue to show Senna’s Brazilian national flag for each design. The bright yellow color of the race cars makes them look like Senna’s own race helmet, and the blue and green stripes make them stand out.

The livery on the road car was made by McLaren’s own Special Operations team by hand. There are tribute signs all over the car’s paint job. The “double S” logo is on the top and endplates of the car’s wings. Senna is shown on the sides of the car in two different ways: inside and outside the race car.
