During Monterey Car Week, Mercedes-Maybach will release two limited edition cars. One of them, the Nordic Glow S-class, will only be sold in the United States. There will only be 50 Edition Nordic Glow S680s made, and each one symbolizes the peak of Mercedes’ customizing capabilities. The two-tone paint is said to have been inspired by the aurora borealis. Even though Mercedes-Maybach cars are already very exclusive, the company will show off an even more exclusive type this evening at Pebble Beach. The S680 Edition Nordic Glow, which is restricted to only 50 units and is exclusively intended for the American market, is inspired by the Northern Lights and features distinctive interior and exterior accents from Mercedes’ Manufaktur individualization department. The Mercedes-Maybach S680 is a high-end limousine that doesn’t have many rivals, it was made in answer to cars like the Rolls-Royce Phantom. With a 133.7-inch wheelbase and a length of just about eighteen feet, it is the most luxury S-class possible, powered by a smooth twin-turbocharged V-12 engine. It can reach 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and has a top power of 621 hp, however, Maybach’s physical success doesn’t really mean anything. Instead, this car focuses on being rich and present. It lives up to its name as it glides down the red carpet on its two-tone paint job and 21-inch wheels that are shaped like champagne flutes. The paint job, which is a deep metallic violet on top and a bright white below, is meant to look like the aurora borealis moving over a landscape covered in frost. Inside, things are much cozier, starting with a layout of four seats that looks like first-class travel. It’s a vehicle designed for those who prefer to be driven to their destination; amenities include deep pile carpets, leather-lined folding rear seat tables, a refrigerator, and champagne glasses with the Maybach insignia. The Nordic Edition takes these high-class settings and adds dark wood with a herringbone design and gray Nappa leather. Pebble Beach is a great place for Mercedes to show off its newest Maybach car because it has many wealthy buyers. The 50-piece limited version of the Nordic Glow sold out very quickly, and it’s a great way to show off how customizable the Manufaktur division can be. The Maybach version of the new G-class isn’t available anymore, but you can still buy one with features that have been changed to fit your needs. Later this year, sellers should be able to get their hands on the $339,000 S680 Edition Nordic Glow. That’s about three times the price of a regular S-class, but a black Mercedes S-class is appealing in part because it’s hard to see. In the same way that the Northern Lights do, the Maybach Edition Nordic Glow is meant to stand out.
