Carbon fiber bodies on Porsche 911s aren’t exactly new. Every week, a new restaurant company comes out with air-cooled P-cars that are lighter than ever. But even among Porsche fans, the simple 912 seems to be forgotten while the more expensive 911 gets all the attention. This is why the fact that a 912 with a carbon body weighs only 1,541 pounds is so impressive.

The most pricey Porsche 912 in the world costs $436,000 and weighs 1,541 pounds

The 912c is the name of the one made by KAMM. The first Porsche 912 went through a lot of changes that made it better in every way while keeping its appeal. Only from 1965 to 1969 did Porsche make the 912. It is a one-of-a-kind car. By being less expensive, it was meant to fill the gap between the Porsche 356 and the first-generation 911. The 911 and the 912 both had the same chassis and body. However, the 912 had a 1.6-liter flat-four engine from the 356 SC instead of the 911’s flat-six. When it was delivered, it had a four-speed manual transmission and 90 bucks.

The KAMM 912c starts as a donor 912 and gets a full chassis and body restoration. For the latter, customers can pick between a semi-carbon fiber body and a brand-new full-carbon body. It costs more, but the full-carbon body is lighter. Plus, the side mirrors are made of carbon fiber, and the Lexan polycarbonate glass is lighter. Then, the original body trim is put back on, and the body is painted the color the customer wants it to be so it looks stock.

The 912 four-cylinder engine was changed by JPS Aircooled in Switzerland. Its displacement was increased to 2.0 liters, and its output was raised to 190 horsepower. For KAMM, that is the “fast road/track day” tune state, but there may be other tune states available. The KAMM 912c keeps that spirit alive with a five-speed dogleg manual transmission. For track use, users can choose a close-ratio “box,” and for road use, they can choose a long-ratio “box.” You can also get exhaust systems made of Inconel or titanium.

The five-way electronically adjustable coilover system in the Tractive is managed by a dial inside the car. It also comes with AP Racing brakes, a ZF limited-slip rear differential, and four different wheels: heritage Fuchs, alloy wheels that look like steel wheels, five-lug “917-style” wheels, and three-piece center-locking wheels.

The best way to change a Porsche 912 is to make it lighter while keeping its power around 190 horsepower. Even though it has a lot more power, it should still be the same light, quick, and pure sports car it has always been. The only things that make it look different are the fancier wheels, cooler interior, and lower ride height.

It’s very expensive to buy one of these 912s made of carbon fiber. The donor car is part of the full carbon-bodied KAMM 912c, which costs $436,600. The change will cost $392,940 if you already have a donor 912. If you bring your donor, a semi-carbon-bodied car costs $349,280, but $392,940 if the donor is already paid for. Only two built slots will be open in 2023, though, so you should move fast if you’re interested.
