Ford is showcasing the Mustang’s illustrious racing tradition by launching a special edition of the Mustang GTD, named Spirit of America. The special edition of the 815-hp muscle car made its debut at the 2025 Detroit auto show, showcasing distinctive racing stripes and carbon-fiber aerodynamic elements. Although no production figures have been disclosed, we suspect that the Spirit of America model will be available in even more limited quantities than the standard Mustang GTD, which is already an exceptionally exclusive vehicle. Ford had raced this car since 1964 when it won the Tour de France Automobile in the Touring Car class. Many people are excited about the release of the Mustang GTD, which is a nod to the company’s roots in motorsports. This limited-edition Spirit of America version will be shown at the 2025 Detroit car show. The name “Spirit of America” comes from the land speed records-setting jet-powered cars that racing hero Craig Breedlove made. Ford thinks that Breedlove’s imagination and way of thinking led to the Mustang GTD. People will remember Breedlove for a long time after he died in April 2023 because he was the first person to break the 500- and 600-mph land speed marks. The Mustang GTD is already a very strong car, with its 815-horsepower supercharged V-8; the Spirit of America model doesn’t get any more power. Instead, to improve downforce and aerodynamics, Ford has added body parts made of exposed carbon fiber to the limited-edition trim. A rear diffuser and a front splitter are some of these aero features. The most obvious part of the car is its rear wing, which is made of pure carbon fiber and has a big MUSTANG script on the back of it. The normal cars you just passed will know what kind of car you have. The rest of the body is painted Performance White, and there are two racing stripes, in Race Red and Lightning Blue, that look like the tri-bar symbol that first showed on the 1964 Mustang. Each Spirit of America car will have the Performance package, Victory Blue paddle shifters, and unique sports seats made of black onyx fabric with red, white, and blue accents. Ford hasn’t said how much the Mustang GTD Spirit of America will cost yet, but it won’t be cheap. The normal model is expected to sell for more than $300,000, and only a few will be made, so this special edition model will definitely be more expensive and harder to find.
