• Mazda revealed that the EZ-6, a new electric car with a range of up to 370 miles, would be sold in China.
  • Mazda plans to sell the EZ-6 as a plug-in hybrid that can go 620 miles.
  • While the EZ-6 was made in collaboration with the Chinese automaker Changan, it is not expected to come to the United States.

Mazda’s first try to make an electric vehicle (EV) in the US didn’t work out. With a range of only about 100 miles, the MX-30 was only sold in California and was only made for two model years. The Japanese company showed off a new electric sedan for China at the Beijing auto show, but it hasn’t said anything about plans for any other EVs in the US yet. It looks like a return of the Mazda 6 car, which stopped being made after 2021. It’s called the EZ-6. No sales will be made in the United States of America.

The New Mazda EZ-6 is an electric car with rear-wheel drive that is built on the Mazda 6 Sedan

The Mazda 6 electric car

The EZ-6, which was made in partnership with the Chinese car company Changan, will be on sale in China by the end of the year. The electric car stands tall and has a big, squared-off hood. Its headlights are long and thin. The work on the body is lovely. Even though the back has a full-width light bar, it still has the rounded, eye-like shape of older Mazda models. When going faster, the retractable wings can be raised above the taillight to make the car more stable. The EZ-6 is an inch longer than the last Mazda 6 that was sold in the United States.
The EZ-6’s cabin is made of high-quality materials and has a big 14.6-inch tablet in the middle and a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster. The center panel is simple, but it has a wireless charging station, two cupholders, and beautiful wood trim around the door window switches. You can use your voice or body to control the entertainment system, which has two vents and haptic touch controls on the back seat.

We don’t know much about the EZ-6’s electric engine, but the fact that it has rear-wheel drive points to a single electric motor placed in the back. Mazda says that the EZ-6 has a front strut suspension and a rear multilink suspension system. The weight is split evenly between the front and back axles. Mazda will sell the EZ-6 with both an electric drivetrain and a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. No information was given about the engine that will be paired with the electric drivetrain. Mazda says that an EV can go about 370 miles, and a PHEV can go about 620 miles on a single tank of gas. Voice control is also possible with the EZ-6’s “intelligent parking technology” when the driver is not present.

A stylish electric SUV

Mazda also showed off the Arata, a design for a sleek SUV that the company says will be made by the end of 2025 and will be its second electric car for the Chinese market. The Arata looks sleek with its big, rising D-pillar, blanked-off grille, and thin headlights, but we need to learn more about the engine.

The Arata is a beautiful crossover, but the fact that the EZ-6 car will probably only be sold in China makes us much sadder. An electric hatchback with a range of more than 300 miles and rear-wheel drive would be a great addition to Mazda’s US lineup. It would also be one of the most fun mass-market electric cars to drive to date. Even if the EZ-6 doesn’t make it to the US, we hope that Mazda’s plans for electric vehicles in the US include a car as nice as this one.
