The Tesla Model 3 has been on the market for six years, and in that time, it has undergone many small changes and improvements. The next update to Project Highland is a significant change for the popular mid-sized electric car. The front grille is smoother and cleaner now, which is the most apparent change. The slight fog light pods that used to be low on each side have been removed, but the lower grille hole remains. Also, the headlights have been remade to look sleeker, and the daytime running lights are very well hidden. A new strake surrounds the turn light zone on the front fenders and doors. In the pictures, there are also changes to the rear bumper, which now has a piece that looks like a diffuser cut into it. This differs from the Model 3’s old, more spartan back bumper. Because the shots could be more transparent, we can’t tell how significant the change is or if any aerodynamic changes have been made. The back tails have also been changed to look more like claws. Aside from what we can see now, the update is supposed to change more of the model’s core traits than we can see now. The main goal is to reduce the number of parts to save money while improving the look and interior of the car to keep people interested. According to the current WLTP range estimates, the base model Model 3 with rear-wheel drive and 18-inch wheels can go 344 miles, and the extended range model can go an impressive 421 miles. Compared to the current Model 3, which has WLTP range numbers of between 305 and 374 miles, this is a good 12 percent improvement. Due to the EPA’s testing schedule, market forecasts in the US will change, but there will still be a wider choice of options. The inside of the Model 3 has also been changed. Metal and modern fabrics are used on the inside, and a new ambient lighting system lights up the space. Tesla says new acoustic glass and materials blocking noise have made the car quieter. Other changes include a new 15.4-inch main infotainment screen with smaller bezels, an 8-inch rear display screen with infotainment and temperature controls, and new rules on the steering wheel that replace column-mounted stalks. Also, sources have said that the Project Highland upgrade will be made at the Gigafactory Shanghai first, and there are signs that production has already started. Because of this, it’s almost certain that Tesla’s plant in Fremont, California, will make updated models. Rumor has it that sales to Europe and the Middle East will start in October. Tesla has yet to say when it will be on the American market. Since the Model 3 is lasting longer, I suggest giving it an update. New competitors join the EV sedan market every year, making things harder for Tesla. The company hopes the growth and aggressive pricing strategy will keep sales strong.
