Tesla says that starting in June, it will sell a Track package for the Model S Plaid. This means that the car is now said to be able to reach a top speed of 200 mph. The package comes with new aluminium wheels that are 20 inches in diameter, brakes made of carbon ceramic, and Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires. The extras cost $20,000, but you can order the carbon-ceramic brakes alone. This article has been changed to include new information about a class record at Nürburgring and a recent tweet from Tesla. The company says a Model S Plaid with a track package set a new EV lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Plaid’s lap time was said to be 7:25.231. When this change was made, the new form had not yet been added to the official website for the Nürburgring. Tesla is releasing a Track package for the Model S Plaid, promised for a long time, and says it will finally let the electric car perform as well as it can. Car and Driver tested the Tesla Model S Plaid in 2021 and found that it went from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds. But because of its weak brakes, it could only go as fast as 162 mph instead of its top speed of 200 mph. Better brakes were added after a Track mode was added last year, which let you set the stability control and improved the cooling, among other changes. Since the Plaid came out in 2021, Tesla had said it would have a carbon-ceramic brake package ready by last summer. But it must be clarified if Tesla gave any cars more powerful brakes. Now that the upgrade is official, it comes with high-performance pads for six-piston forged front and four-piston rear calipers. Both rotors are 16.1 inches in diameter and are made of carbon ceramic. Tesla also says the package comes with “track-ready” brake fluid, and the carbon-ceramic brake kit can be bought separately from the rest of the Track pack. Along with brakes, the package adds new wheels and tires. Tesla calls its new aluminum-forged wheels “Zero-G.” They have Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires that are 285/35R20 in the front and 305/30R20 in the back. The new brakes are also usable with the 21-inch “Arachnid” wheels but not the 19-inch “Tempest” rollers. Tesla says that the price is “$15,000-$20,000.” $15,000 will only get you the carbon-ceramic brake kit, while $20,000 will get you the whole Track package, which includes the wheels and tires. However, Tesla hasn’t confirmed this. The Model S Plaid Track package will become available in June 2023 and can be retrofitted to 2021 and newer Plaid models.
