• The Mission X is a concept car that Porsche showed off today. It is a fast car with an electric engine.
  • Porsche thinks that if it makes the Mission X, it will be able to compete for the record for the fastest street-legal car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
  • Because it is made of lightweight carbon fibre and has good aerodynamics, it has more downforce than a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

The summer is the time for concept cars, and the Porsche Mission X is one of the best. It was first shown at a party to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Porsche’s sports cars. The Mission X shows how fast, light and electric racing cars will be in the next 75 years.

The electric coupe-style concept car has doors that open forward like beetle wings and a light glass dome roof, but it’s clear that Porsche designers were more inspired by the famous 917 race car when they put those hinges in place. The Porsche Mission X is a long-lasting sports car like the ones before it. Oliver Blume, the CEO of Porsche, says that the Mission X is a critical factor in the growth of future car ideas, just like the 959, Carrera GT, and 918 Spyder were.

LED lights are amazing

This is not a longtail. With a length of 177 inches, a width of 78.7 inches, and a height of 47.2 inches, the Mission X should fit well in your garage. It shares the Carrera GT and 918’s 107.4-inch wheelbase. The long, low placement of the light on top of the nose reminds me of other race callouts. Unlike the lights on the old cars, the new ones are LED panels. Only a tiny part of the module can be seen when the headlights are off. When the headlights are turned on, however, the whole module opens up “like an eye blinking open,” as Porsche puts it. From our point of view, the new form of a pop-up.

The concept car is painted in a colour called “Rocket Metallic,” which was made just for this car. Carbon fibre parts with a smooth finish add to the car’s lightweight, and Porsche says that the car’s aerodynamics will produce more downforce than a 911 GT3 RS. Having front wheels 20 inches and back wheels 21 inches helps to get the most downforce. The new Porsche logo is in the middle of each wheel, just like it is in the centre of the hood and the steering wheel. Pay close attention because there are small changes.

Getting charged quickly

The Mission X is expected to have a power-to-weight ratio of about 1 horsepower for every 2.2 pounds. It will also have a 900-volt system allowing it to charge twice as fast as the Taycan Turbo S, which Porsche says can go from 5 to 80 percent in less than 20 minutes. No one knows anything about the motors.

The driver’s seat blends into the Kalahari Grey dash, making the driver feel like part of the car. The colour of the guest seat is strange. We won’t try to guess what the Andalusia Brown passenger seat says about how Porsche wants the passenger to feel.

Switchgear that works with rings

The motorsports-inspired open-top steering wheel has mode buttons and shift paddles, probably for regenerative braking. The cabin also has lap records and a stopwatch module to set your time on the Nürburgring. The Mercedes AMG One, which set a lap time of 6:35.18 in 2022, is now the production car record holder.

Even though Porsche is quick to say that the Mission X is just a concept, it will make it to stores eventually, just like the Mission E did when it became the Taycan.
