The new electric SUV from Kia is called the EV5. The production version has a stylish cabin that looks much like the concept car shown earlier this year. When it goes on sale in China later this year, we expect it to be offered in the US for the 2025 model year. Kia has already shown off the production version of the EV5 concept car, which appeared this spring. This shows that the company is moving quickly to add the newest electric vehicle to its lineup. The outside of the actual car looks a lot like the concept, while the inside has many unique design features and has a lot of room because the electric SUV is tall and boxy. The two-row Kia EV5 and the three-row Kia EV9 are related because they both have sharp lines on the sides and angular lights. Kia says it will be a compact SUV that will fight with cars like the Toyota bZ4X and Volkswagen ID.4. The only differences between the EV5 and the concept car are that the wheels are slightly smaller, and the trim isn’t as flashy. For example, the ultramodern headlights and taillights with LED accent strips are almost identical. The real EV5’s cabin differs significantly from the concept’s lounge-like cabin with swiveling chairs, but it still has some unique design features. The central infotainment screen and the digital gauge cluster are shown on two oversized monitors, and the steering wheel is sleek and roomy. The front seats are bench-style but can’t fit six people because there isn’t a third seatbelt on the cushion between the driver and passenger seats. Even though Kia hasn’t said anything about the EV5, it will have similar powertrain options to the EV6. Based on the Hyundai-Kia E-GMP platform, this model has a 77.4 kWh battery pack and single-motor and dual-motor options that range from 225 hp to 577 hp. You can expect to hear more about the EV5 when it sells in China later this year. Kia says it will discuss this new model and other electric cars it plans to make at an EV Day event in October.
