• Only 100 Shelby Mustang Mach-E GT electric cars will be sold in Europe. These will be the first cars that Shelby Americans have modified.
  • The ride height of the crossover was reduced by one inch thanks to brand-new carbon fiber body pieces (including the hood, grille, and splitter up front), forged aluminum wheels, and springs.
  • Shelby American also added the Borla Active Performance Sound System, which makes engine noises that match the speed and RPM of the car.

Shelby American’s first electric car, a modified Mustang Mach-E GT, is the start of a new age. Because of V-8 muscle cars like the Cobra and Mustang GT500, Carroll Shelby’s last name is well known. The package is based on an idea from the SEMA show in 2021. Its primary goals are to make the car lighter and easier to drive. Only 100 prints will be made to mark Carroll Shelby’s 100th birthday.

A Shelby made just for Europe

Surprisingly, only people in Europe can buy the Shelby Mustang Mach-E GT. Shelby American says the choice was made because EV sales are increasing, and there are more public chargers in Europe than in the U.S. The kit will cost an extra €24,900 ($27,483) when put on a new Mach-E GT or added to a current car.

Even though the Shelby Mach-E concept car had a different front end, the final model has the same look. The hood, grille, front lip, mirror caps, and lower door trim are made of carbon fiber instead of traditional materials to save weight. The company says that the Mach-E looks black because it has carbon parts. The stripes that run down the hood and along the sides of the electric crossover add to the black look.

Shelby American also added performance springs that lower the car by more than an inch and forging aluminum wheels that make the car lighter. You can tell you got the rare Shelby version of Ford’s performance EV because it has a Shelby logo on the back door and a plaque with a serial number on the dashboard. It also comes with Shelby-branded floor mats.

An Unpopular Electric Vehicle “Exhaust”

The Borla Active Performance Sound System is part of the Shelby Mach-E that has caused the most talk. The system was shown for the first time at the SEMA show in 2022. The new Shelby Mach-E GT is the first production car to have it. The kit matches the car’s speed and RPM to a “hyper-realistic ICE soundtrack.”

Borla has said that it was working on sounds for EVs. The SEMA system had three choices for simulating different V-8 sounds, but Shelby did not say what sounds the Mach-E GT would be able to make. Shelby American says the sound is “an important visceral component of motoring for enthusiasts.” Still, it needs to be clarified if car fans will like the synthetic noises that are starting to spread in the EV industry.

Since Shelby Americans didn’t change the engine, the all-wheel-drive sports SUV still has 480 horsepower and 634 pound-feet of torque. During tests by Car and Driver, a 2021 GT Performance Edition went from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and went 101 mph for 12.7 seconds in the quarter-mile.

The Shelby Mach-E GT won’t be available for now, but we hope Shelby American will soon start looking at the American market and be able to get more speed out of whatever EV it modifies next.
