• Tesla is already taking orders for the Cybertruck’s range extension, which should give it a range of more than 450 miles.
  • A $500 nonrefundable payment is needed to make a reservation, and the price given is about $16,000.
  • It is expected that range extender production will begin in the coming year. Installation should take place at a service center.

The Tesla Cybertruck is not like any other truck. It breaks the rules in many ways, such as how it looks, drives, and steers. After getting rid of the single-motor rear-drive model (which never made it to customers), Tesla has started taking orders for the Cybertruck model, which can go farther on a single charge.

The Tesla Cybertruck Range Extender will likely cost around $16,000

The Beast trim has a 123.0-kWh battery, but we don’t know how much power the range extension can provide. Tesla’s website says that the range extension can add 120 miles to the range of the Beast model and 130 miles to the range of the basic twin motor. With these changes, the dual-motor truck’s range should go up to 470 miles, and the Beast’s range should go up to 440 miles. It’s not quite the 500 miles Tesla said it would be, but it’s pretty close.

Those stats are definitely too good to be true. Our test route for getting the best gas mileage on the highway took us 75 miles per gallon, and the Beast model had a 250-mile range. The extender does make the Cybertruck less useful, though, since it takes up more than a third of the pickup’s bedroom. The company Tesla says that adding the extension will stay the same as how other devices work.

According to the Tesla website, production is “planned for early 2025,” and reservations are now being taken. Tesla’s prices are “estimated” to be $16,000, and you need to pay a $500 payment to hold your spot. For safety reasons, you may need to go to a Tesla repair shop to get the extender put on.
