Beginning in 2026, Toyota wants to enter the Supercars Championship with the Supra. The 2UR-GSE V-8 engine, which is already in the Lexus IS F, RC F, GS F, and LC500 coupe, will power the Supra race car. The race car’s early clay models featured stronger aerodynamics and larger side exhausts. The famous name of the Toyota Supra comes from its 2JZ inline-six engine. It was used in the A80 generation Supra in the 1990s and is a choice among tuners who want to make a lot of power easily. The Supra title came back in 2020, but this time, it had BMW’s powerful 3.0-liter inline-six engine. However, Toyota’s Australian branch has said that it will enter the Supercars Championship in 2026 with a sleek sports coupe. As a result, the company is currently planning to install a powerful V-8 engine under Supra’s hood. Toyota has said that the race car’s engine will be the 2UR-GSE all-aluminum quad-cam V-8, but other than that, only a little is known about the GR Supra. These Lexus cars all have 5.0-liter engines: the IS F, RC F, GS F, LC500, and IS500 F-Sport Performance. It was also found under the hood of Nasser Al-Attiyah’s Hilux pickup truck, which he used to win the 2019 Dakar. Toyota showed a clay model and sketches of the race car’s design. The sketches showed a huge rear wing hanging off the rear decklid and two shiny metal exhaust pipes coming out from under the side doors. The Supra race car has a more aggressive front splitter, bigger air vents on the bumper, and a hole in the hood that could be the V-8 engine cover. The company says that Toyota has been thinking about joining the Supercars Championship for more than 20 years and has decided to do so for at least five years. Toyota has said that at least four GR Supras will be in the race. Two of the cars will be raced by Walkinshaw Andretti United, which works with Toyota on homologation. Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood will be driving them. Reading about Australian racetracks like Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst makes us excited to see how fast the V-8-powered Supra will go.
