Racing games are known for having a camera that follows the car even though it goes hundreds of miles per hour. This has never happened in real life, but a recent movie shows that modern camera technology and a little creativity can go a long way toward recreating the image of a classic video game. The American Rally Association put the video that has caused a lot of trouble on Facebook. A Subaru WRX rally car is seen going fast through a muddy and gravel Oregon Trail Rally course. A regular camera is on board, but that’s different from where the magic happens. A 360-degree video camera from Insta360 was also put in the car. The camera was attached to a long selfie stick stuck out the back window. This made a follow-cam that looked like something from a video game and filmed the car from above and behind. As the Subaru moves, it’s fun to watch it slide and kick up dust clouds. It’s a perfect shot. Because it is attached to the car, it gives a sense of speed and excitement that drone shots can’t. The camera is attached to the rear glass with a severe piece of equipment called a LexiMount. It has four suction cups that hold the camera in place as well as possible. Even though the rig is still in its early stages, it can be rented for motorsports or bought beforehand. The 360-degree camera may move opposite the car to get a complete picture of the vehicle as it turns. This feature was initially made to record incidents of drift. It is wholly made of mechanical parts, and dampers and counterweights are used to control the movement and get the best results. A big, long camera mount that hung off the back of the car raised safety worries, so the ARA had to give special permission to use the equipment. Sources say that the gear was attached to the car’s roll cage to avoid problems if the suction cup fitting didn’t work. The data overlay that shows the car’s speed and RPM, just like in an actual video game, is another excellent part of the movie. Also, if you have yet to think about it, you should be interested in the engine note. DirtFish, the first company to do racing, put a Ferrari engine in Sam Albert’s Subaru WRX. The Italian V8 has enough power and a great sound to blast across the dunes. It’s good to see that racing movies are still getting better. Drift movies have considerably changed since drones were introduced, and F1 has added small helmet cams. This will lead to a better show that everyone will enjoy more.
