• At Monterey Automobile Week, a small Danish startup, Zenvo, unveiled the Aurora, a hybrid V-12 automobile.
  • One hybrid setup uses a single electric motor with the V-12 to create 1450 horsepower, while the other adds two more to the front axle to make 1850 horsepower.
  • The Tur is designed for extended road trips, while the Agil is for lap times and aerodynamics.

Zenvo, a small Danish firm, has built stunning mid-engined supercars since 2009. The TSR-S, with its crazy rear wing that moves up and down, is the most famous. Enormous, rare V-8 engines power these automobiles. Zenvo displayed the Aurora V-12 hybrid hypercar during Monterey Car Week.

The Aurora is Zenvo’s lightest and most powerful road automobile. It was called after the northern lights. Its carbon fibre monocoque frame weighs less than 3,197 pounds dry. A 6.6-liter V-12 engine with four turbochargers produces 1250 horsepower at 9800 rpm under the cabin. The “hot-V” Mahle Powertrain 90-degree V-12 engine has turbochargers in the middle of each bank of cylinders.

The Aurora will have two hybrid systems: the Tur, quieter and better for the road, and the Agil, louder and sportier. The Tur boasts all-wheel drive courtesy of two 200-hp electric motors at each front wheel. However, the Agil has rear-wheel drive and a single 200-hp electric motor for 1450 hp. The Agil has 1850 horsepower and 1254 lb-ft of torque instead of 1033 for the rear-drive variant.

The back electric drivetrain is connected to a seven-speed transmission controlled by paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. People think the Agil’s gear shifts are “mechanical,” while the Tur’s are better. The transmission incorporates an artificial differential and front electric motors for torque vectoring.

The Tur is graceful and fluid, whereas the Agil has several technologies to speed up its flight. The two categories differ. Zenvo claims the 2866-pound Agil can reach 62 mph in 2.5 seconds and 186 mph in under 10 seconds. Its top speed is 227 mph. Despite its more opulent cabin and less track concentration, the Tur’s slippery design enables it to reach 60 mph in 2.3 seconds and 186 mph in under a minute. Its top speed is 280 mph.

The Agil’s massive rear wing, which may act as an air brake and provide additional downforce when slowed for a curve, presumably limits its straight-line speed. Zenvo claims the Agil’s splitter, diffuser, and wing generate 1,920 pounds of downforce at 155 mph. The Agil’s interior is less showy than the Tur’s. The doors and seats are light leather with carbon-fibre frame hints. The Tur looks more excellent inside and has additional protection, making it feel more like a touring vehicle than a track toy.

Zenvo will only make 50 Auroras for each type. In 2026, Aurora owners will receive their first cars from 2025. Since the 2019 TSR-S costs $1.6 million, we know the Aurora will be expensive.
