• The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is hosting a new exhibition that showcases iconic cars from the 1980s and 1990s.
  • A few extremely rare cars on display include the original DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future, the first-ever Buick GNX, and a unique Nissan Skyline GT-R.
  • This is the largest Petersen exhibit of the year so far, and there are still more iconic vehicles from the ’80s and ’90s to explore throughout the museum.

Remember the 1990s? You should know since it was only ten years ago. No, it wasn’t. It makes sense that our knees hurt. There is a great new show at the Petersen Automotive Museum for people who remember the Sony Discman and New Kids on the Block. Some other beautiful cars from the Radwood era are a famous ’85 Countach 5000S and ’89 LM002, as well as a ’92 Ford F-150 Flareside with bright paint and a cab spoiler, which you can see above.

An Exhibit from the Radwood Era

The exhibit is titled “Totally Awesome! Cars and Culture of the ’80s and ’90s,” and it showcases iconic vehicles that played a key role in shaping the era. This is a huge mainstage show, like when Guns N’ Roses toured with Aerosmith. There are more than 13 favorites on the new show, from the bedroom poster you put next to the License to Drive flyer to blockbuster movies and world-class acts.

There’s the Austin Powers Beetle from 1998 (which is also a time machine) and the original DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future. A 1985 Audi Sport Quattro Group B, a remarkable rally car, is on display alongside the debut model of the Buick GNX.

It’s the supercars that are the most exciting. The McLaren F1 is the ultimate hunter, and the Vector M12 and the sixteen-cylinder Cizeta Moroder V16T are rare monsters. The NISMO Skyline GT-R LM homologation special is meant to let Nissan fight in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It will also be a turning point in Japanese culture. There is only one in the world.

Whether you like Corvettes or Countachs, there’s something for everyone. Before going to the Peterson Museum, you should apply a lot of hairspray to your hair and clothing. The show will begin on Friday, June 6.
