• The Porsche GT2 is a powerful car with a turbocharger that is an extreme version of the 911 Turbo.
  • During the 996 era, only 300 GT2s were sent to the US, and this one has a lot of potential because it has so few miles on it.
  • The auction for the Bring a Trailer ends on January 29.

The GT2 has a reputation for being rare, rough, and related to the original “Widowmaker” 930 Turbo, all of which are true. You can now drive one of Porsche’s most potent 911s because of our Bring a Trailer sale.

For people who don’t know, this silver 911 looks like just another one, and its elliptical headlights make it look like it’s not even one of the best. Looking closely, you can see that it says “GT2” on the back, has a distinctive rear wing and has yellow calipers, which means it has carbon-ceramic brakes. This Neunelfer is not like the others; there is a monster here.

The GT2 was an untamed 911 Turbo because it was lighter, more powerful, and didn’t have driver aids like electronic stability control. The GT3, on the other hand, was more of a track star that could compete with the Corvette Z06 in mid-corner battles. If the GT3 were a scalpel, the GT2 would be a claymore. If you weren’t careful, you could send one or two limbs to Tucumcari. Like the 930 before it, the GT2 is not for fools.

The GT2 kept the 3.6-liter flat-six engine in the Turbo at the time, but it had bigger turbochargers, more cooling, and better software. When they took out the all-wheel drive, the weight went down by about 220 pounds, and the power went up by more than 15% to 474 horsepower. The GT2 had carbon-ceramic solid brakes, which were needed when the car got close to its top speed of 196 mph.

In 2001, when we were driving the car in Germany, we noticed that the GT2 looked a little different. “The eye-opening, but still very addicting, drive requires you to keep your eyes on the speedometer as it gets close to the top of its scale. Along with the GT2’s constant chorus of “Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go,” there is an implied disclaimer line that says, “Look, schmuck, I’m not your mom.” Here, you’re on your own.”

This is a 2003 US-market car that is almost perfect and has all the necessary paperwork. With three days left, the current offer is $155,000, but the price will likely go up as time goes on.

This one is silver on the outside and black on the inside. It has only been driven 4000 miles. Interiors from the 996 era usually get worse over time. Still, this car’s interior has a lot of well-kept leather trim that looks effective and professional, which is precisely what you want in a Porsche.

This GT2 is a significant investment, but if you buy it, please drive it. It doesn’t matter if it has 4,000 or 6,000 miles on the odometer because the current owner has recently replaced most of the engine’s wearable parts, including a new set of spark plugs. The lucky buyer should get behind the wheel of a turbocharged Porsche at least once to feel how much fun it is.
