• The BMW E9-chassis coupes were some of their most beautiful models.
  • Taking this thing apart and putting it back together again is a good idea, and the new paint goes well with the original Golf Yellow.
  • With an inline-six engine and a manual transmission, it’s a joy to drive, or you could enjoy it.

There’s no doubt that modern BMWs are very popular, but elegance is less common in Munich these days. It looks like your favorite classical cellist has chosen to work as a DJ in a Miami bar. Let’s listen to one of BMW’s most famous songs from the days when three chords and the truth were the same thing as six cylinders and a manual gear.

This beautiful 1974 BMW 3.0CSi coupe is today's Bring a Trailer Find

This beautiful 1974 BMW 3.0CSi is being auctioned off right now on Bring a Trailer, which is a division of Hearst Autos. The price listed is the purchase price. It has been rebuilt in great detail, with every part being noticed. It looks great from the outside and from behind the wheel, and the long nose makes the car look even better. There are many beautiful features, like the 14-inch wheels with multiple spokes and the Nardi steering wheel with a wood rim.

The letter “CSi” has nothing to do with that police show on TV where David Caruso puts on sunglasses and then makes a bad pun. Instead, it stands for Coupe Sport, with the lowercase “I” indicating the fuel injection in the 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine. The Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection system in this car made 200 horsepower and was more reliable than carbureted systems that were common at the time.

Reports say that this car was first sold in Germany, and it doesn’t have the big impact bumper that US cars do. The Golf Yellow color is the same as the first arrival, even though it was repainted.

Oldenzaal Classics, a Dutch company that specializes in old BMWs, took the 3.0 CSi completely apart and electroplated and refinished the unibody. They also fixed the suspension, the 3.0-liter inline-six engine, and the four-speed manual gearbox. This E9 comes with an official BMW Classics certificate, which shows that the repair was done very well.

Because this 3.0CSi is so perfect, it will definitely fetch a high price. However, it’s not a low-mileage original collectible that shouldn’t be driven to keep its worth. It’s a great car to drive, and the air conditioning works (it was recently changed to R134a). The person who won the auction shouldn’t be able to give any reason why they can’t drive it. March 6 is the last day to bid on the sale. Put on your sunglasses because you’re going to cry a lot if you don’t get the 3.0CSi.
