It had been more than 50 years since Mercedes-Benz showed off the C111 idea, a beautiful supercar with gull-wing doors and a rotary engine. The C 111 was first shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1969. During the 1970s, it came in four different versions: the C111-II, C111-III, and C111-IV. Each had its engine, anything from a Wankel engine to a turbo diesel engine. Mercedes only made 16 C 111s, but their body shells made of polymer and bright orange colour have made a lasting impact on many car fans. The Mercedes-Benz Vision One-Eleven pays tribute to the famous icon while combining today’s design philosophy with the technology and performance of tomorrow’s electric vehicles. This week, it was shown off to the media at the automaker’s design centre in Carlsbad. The Vision One-Eleven is a mix of the famous and the future. It uses the low profile of the C111 and adds cutting-edge technologies like augmented reality to the world of sports cars.
