• Rivian gave a sneak peek of the R2, which will be released on March 7.
  • The R2 will be smaller and cheaper, but it looks the same as the R1S and R1T.
  • The R2S SUV is likely to come out first. The R2T pickup is being thought about but is not likely to happen.

Rivian is going to add the R2, a smaller and more affordable electric SUV, to their lineup. We got our first official look at it before it goes on sale to the public. On March 7, the R2 will be fully unveiled, and Rivian says that reservations for this model will be taken as soon as it is known to the public. The company has said in the past that this model could start as low as $40,000 and go up to $60,000 for more advanced versions.

This is a sneak peek at the Rivian R2, a smaller electric SUV that will be shown off on March 7

With rounded headlights and a full-width LED light bar, the new model’s front end looks just as lively as its bigger siblings. This makes it look like its design will be similar to that of previous Rivians. This design would look different on a smaller box, as shown in the last image. Rivian will have to deal with competition from a number of small electric SUVs, such as the Volkswagen ID.4 and the Tesla Model Y, once this new model comes out.

Even though Rivian is only calling it the R2, the smaller Rivian will be called the R2S to match the names of the bigger R1T truck and R1S SUV. The R1T already has a smaller share of the market for electric cars. An R2T pickup truck is less likely to happen, but it’s still possible.
