There will be a bigger Porsche top SUV called the “K1” than the mid-size Cayenne. The K1 should be able to fit seven people because its roof is more boxy. The new 900-volt electrical design can reduce charging times. The K1 is likely to have air suspension and rear-axle steering. Porsche announced more than two years ago that they were going to build a new flagship SUV to replace the Cayenne. The new SUV would have a new electric vehicle design. According to spy shots our photographer took of an early prototype being tested near Porsche’s development facilities in Germany, the crossover code-named “K1” will be a lot bigger than expected when it comes out for the 2027 model year. The pictures make it look like the K1 is longer and has more chunky parts than the Cayenne. The design of the side window, which rises at the back instead of falling, draws attention to the more squared-off roofline. This is likely a facade that hides the real entrance to the sun. The headlights are shaped like the new 2024 Macan EV, and the thin taillights are part of a black trim piece that goes across the width of the liftgate. The front and rear bumpers are also highly disguised. Porsche hasn’t said how many seats the K1 will have, but it’s likely to fit up to seven people. The SUV’s size also makes three rows of seats likely. The K1 will be powered by a more flexible version of Volkswagen’s upcoming Scalable Systems Platform (SSP). The SSP is supposed to have a 900-volt battery that can charge very quickly, from 10% to 80%, in as little as 12 minutes. The big SUV should have an electronic differential and four-wheel steering to help it navigate small areas like its namesake Porsche. If you buy a luxury SUV, you might think that air suspension is normal. The K1 will also have cutting-edge technology that will allow it to drive itself. The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV with two rows of seats, the Rivian R1S with seven seats, and the soon-to-be-released Range Rover EV will all be up against the Porsche K1. The price could be a lot more than $100,000, maybe even more than the Cayenne Turbo’s starting price of $148,550. The top-of-the-line SUV will go on sale in the US for the 2027 model year. It will be made starting in 2026.
