Hot August Nights has something for everyone, whether you like to sit in a folding chair next to your favorite car or drive it. The yearly 10-day hot rod summer festival in Northern Nevada ended with the Grand Finale Parade in downtown Reno. The celebration began with two nights of cruising in historic Virginia City in classic cars. How to Use the Streets? Hot August Nights gave 5,500 hot rods, custom trucks, muscle cars, and a few other vehicles that didn’t fit into these categories the chance to cruise at the Atlantis, Grand Sierra Resort, Nugget, and Peppermill. There were also regularly planned, regulated cruises in downtown Reno and Sparks. Ways to Get to Reno As dinner time comes, we return to the famous Reno archway on Virginia Street. Even though the cruising doesn’t start until 7 p.m., by 5 p.m., the cars that were parked along the curbs to show off have been moved, barricades have been put up in their place, and people have started to come to get a good view of the weekly show on the road. In a 112-mile square loop, the downtown cruise path goes down Virginia, across the river, up the University, and back down Virginia. By the time the race ends at 10 a.m., hot rodders can do a lot of laps, and onlookers can see everything. Whoever wants to see more can return when it happens again the next night.
