Every two weeks, new cars come and go from the Ann Arbor, Michigan, office of Invoice Pricing. They have to go through all of our tests during that time. But they also give workers a reason to leave the office, play with, er, look into their many features, and make first impressions while moving. A 2024 Lexus GX550 Overtrail was one of our most recent guests. During our lunch break, we drove it and saw three of its great features.

The back window flips up

In the past, most SUVs had back windows that could be opened without opening the liftgate. Only a few cars have this useful feature these days, but the new Lexus GX and the Toyota Land Cruiser (which share the same frame) do. Press the easy button on the bottom left corner of the back panel to open the flip-up glass. And it’s easier to get things out of the cargo area this way. Plus, you can enjoy the nice hissing sound that the gas struts make when the windows move. Some people don’t mind the noise, but for those of us who grew up with the best SUVs of the 1990s, it makes us miss those days.

There are more than enough ways to drive

This add-on will make your mall crawler’s drive modes go from five to six. Yes, drivers can pick from 11 settings with the Multi-Terrain Select system, including Deep Snow, Mud, Sand, Dirt, and Auto. They can also use the ute’s standard drive modes. Find the column of buttons on the center console, next to your right knee, to get to all of your choices. The digital gauge cluster will show you a list of modes. To switch between them, turn the sturdy “Mode Select” rotating knob. There is a Tow Haul mode and a Crawl Control mode on the GX. The Crawl Control mode helps you get through rough ground at low speeds. Low-range four-wheel drive is the only way to get there.

The Cool Box That’s Not Visible

What does a 2024 Lexus GX550 Overtrail have to do with a Rolls-Royce Cullinan? Each one has a cold part. Even though the new Land Cruiser can also say that it doesn’t take away from how great their “Cool Box” is. Under the center seat of the GX, there is a deep compartment that can hold four 12-ounce water bottles or other drinks of the same size. To turn on the fridge, press the Cool Box button that is closest to the driver. The cooling feature can be turned on and off, but there is no heat setting, which is why it’s called a “Hot Box.”
