The online configurator is one of the best things to do when we get a new Porsche. Whether you’re really shopping for a car or just pretending like us, the automaker is known for giving you a lot of extras and customization choices that let you set up your car in an infinite number of ways. All of this is important for Porsche’s newest model, the electric Macan small SUV, which came out not long ago. Since there are two models of the 2024 Macan EV, we used the “build-your-own” tool to see how different the colors, trims, and extras we chose could be. Since the Macan starts at a relatively low $80,450, it wasn’t a surprise that all of us ended up with cars that cost six figures.

Three tasty versions of the 2024 Porsche Macan EV that we'd set up

Drew’s Macan EV 4 costs $101,930

I really tried to stick to a budget while building my perfect Macan EV, but I failed. I couldn’t say no to all of these great choices. The base model, the four trim, costs $80,450, but I painted it Oak Green Metallic Neo right away for $2490 and bought 22-inch Exclusive Design wheels called Neodyme for $4,750. The gold paint on them costs $1290. Could you get rid of it?

The steering wheel, dashboard, center panel, and doors are all made of Truffle Brown leather, which I bought for $3820. I bought Neodyme-colored ornaments for the inside for $530. The $3900 Premium option was a great deal because it came with 14-way power-adjustable comfort seats, four-zone automatic climate control, upgraded LED Matrix headlights, ventilated front seats, and heated back seats. It also comes with a 14-speaker Bose sound system, but for an extra $4700, Porsche will change it to a 21-speaker Burmester system. You can guess which one I pick.

When I add up all of these extras and the landing fee, which came to $21,480, my Oak Green Macan EV 4 costs $101,930, which is a lot of money for a small luxury crossover at first look. But I could have done worse, given that it has an electric motor and the prices of other EVs in the same class.

Caleb Miller has a $123,110 Macan EV Turbo

The gas-powered Macan GTS, which used to be called the Turbo, is a real rocket ship, so I chose the electric Turbo version, thinking it would work just as well. With a starting price of $106,950, I chose a small treat. The 21-inch Offroad Design wheels cost $1900, and the Copper Ruby Metallic paint cost $2490. Together, they give the SUV a focused look. The gloss black window trim ($240), black metal roof rails ($410), and free lower rear bumper trim are all small design touches.

It cost $900 to paint the standard red brake calipers gloss black because the Copper Ruby color made them look awful. I paid $880 to have the Porsche logo colored in ice blue on the backlight bar. I also spent $370 to put in a rear wiper after learning from our long-term Hyundai Ioniq 5 that it was necessary. One that costs $450 will help melt snow and ice after a winter storm.

For the attractive paint job on the outside, I chose the Blackberry color choice, which costs an extra $220. The inside came with the standard leather package. I saved money on the gold-colored Neodyme highlights. I brushed aluminum interior décor, but I went all out on Porsche crests for the headrests ($600) and an illuminated Porsche symbol for the front seats ($310). During the summer, I decided to buy the $650 ventilated front seats. Even though it cost an unbelievable $4700, I felt right choosing the Burmester surround sound system. I only made one mechanical change to keep the wheels from hitting walls in tight areas. It costs $2040 to add rear-axle steering. All together, my Macan EV cost $123,110.

Greg Fink has a Macan EV Turbo that costs $113,460

The fact that Porsche calls the top-of-the-line electric Macan model “Turbo” when it doesn’t have turbochargers bothers me. This violation is still something I’m ready to look past in order to get the 194 horsepower that the Turbo version offers. My Porsche with 630 horsepower has already cost me $106,950 because of this. Take it easy. That number is already going up by a few numbers before I even get to the selection. Some things should come standard on this Porsche that cost extra because it is a Porsche.

Interestingly, this is only true for some paint colors, like the Frozen Blue Metallic color on my Macan—the bottom fascias, side blades, and mirrors that are gloss black make for great contrast. The $410 black roof rails make me want to spend an extra $240 on gloss black window trim. To use the Macan’s full towing ability of 4,409 pounds, I’ll have to spend an extra $610 on a trailer hitch. It will cost an extra $370 for a windscreen wiper for the back. I also get a heated windscreen worth $450 and better lights worth $520. I’m keeping the 20-inch wheels that came with the Turbo so that the ride stays smooth even with summer tires (which are a free update).

It’s because I’m a spoiled brat that I’m spending $1300 on front seats with air conditioning and massages. The 18-way Adaptive Sport seats and 14-way black leather Comfort chairs will have to do. In order to make the rooms come to life, I chose free options like silver and brushed aluminum furniture. You have to pay an extra $960 for Porsche’s Level 2 driver-aid system. Finally, I chose the 115-volt luggage hold socket for $160, the ionizer for $460, and the Sport Chrono package for $980. It cost $113,460 to buy my Macan Turbo. That’s a lot of money, and I had to be very strong-willed to keep it.
