• Toyota has hinted at a new car that would be unveiled on May 20.
  • Toyota did not reveal the vehicle’s identity, but we believe it is the 2026 RAV4 SUV.
  • Toyota has been spotted testing a new RAV4, which could feature a standard hybrid powertrain similar to that of the 2025 Camry sedan.

The Toyota RAV4 is currently the third best-selling automobile in the United States, and the firm is planning to debut a new sixth generation of its popular little SUV soon. The Japanese automaker released three teaser photographs today, and while they didn’t directly state that this is the 2026 RAV4, we’ve been expecting substantial changes to the crossover, and the images appear to show a small SUV.

Toyota Plans To Introduce The New RAV4 Before The End Of May

Toyota plans to debut the automobile on May 20. The SUV teasers feature three diverse settings: a snow-covered trail, a suburban street, and a meandering country road. It’s hard to say much about the RAV4’s design, but spy photos of the new SUV show a squared-off front end. The spy photos revealed a more erect design, C-shaped headlamps, and trapezoidal wheel arches. One of the teaser images shows the crossover with a scarlet body and a blackened roof.

The 2026 RAV4 is expected to come with a standard hybrid drivetrain, similar to the Camry sedan for the 2025 model year. It will have the same engine layout as before, with a 2.5-liter inline-four producing 225 horsepower, two electric motors, and front-wheel drive. Switching to all-wheel drive improves the output to 232 horsepower, and a third electric motor is added for the back wheels. Although we don’t know what changes Toyota will make to the plug-in hybrid powertrain, we expect Toyota to continue selling the RAV4 with it.

If this is the 2026 Toyota RAV4, we expect it to go on sale before the end of the year following its May 20 debut. The starting price for the RAV4 Plug-In Hybrid is expected to be in the mid-$40,000 range, while the starting price will stay around $30,000.
