During the whole 2023 F1 Canadian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was in the lead. Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were fighting for second place. Even though the Canadian GP wasn’t the most exciting race of the year, it had a tight middle and fights that went to the end. Verstappen won again, but he had less of a lead this time than the other cars. There were only eight seconds between Verstappen and Alonso at the finish line. Hamilton was three seconds behind Alonso. Behind them, the eighth-place race was very close during the last 20 laps. Alex Albon kept Esteban Ocon from passing him with great defence, giving Williams an excellent seventh-place finish. He was named the driver of the day for his efforts, and coming in seventh in a Williams is a great result. The biggest surprise of the weekend was when George Russell crashed his Mercedes into the wall at the end of turn nine, right before the race started. After a pit stop, he could finish 40 laps before quitting because his brakes were worn out. Lando Norris lost five seconds because he followed the safety car too slowly, which put him in 13th place overall. Lance Stroll, a local star, came in ninth, one spot ahead of Valtteri Bottas, who arrived in tenth. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, who also drove Ferraris, came in fourth and fifth, respectively, in anonymous finishes. With his 41st win, Verstappen is ahead of Ayrton Senna in the title standings. As a team that builds cars, Red Bull has won 100 races, and many more will come. Even though Aston Martin and Mercedes are getting closer to cutting into Red Bull’s lead, the season-long race will be for second place, not first.
